What is the Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) (including CHEM-7 Lab Test)

A group of fourteen tests that measures level of various substances in your blood is known as Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) test. It helps determine the body’s metabolism status, hence called metabolic panel. The test help garner information on blood glucose level, kidney health, liver health and electrolyte and fluid balance.

Test that falls under CMP are:

  • Glucose test
  • Calcium test
  • Protein test: Albumin and Total protein
  • Electrolytes test: Sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate
  • Kidney test:  Creatinine and Blood urea nitrogen (BUN)
  • Liver test: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), Alanine amino transferase (ALT, SGPT), Aspartate amino transferase (AST, SGOT) and bilirubin
